Potential Names for The New Spider-Man Movie

Hey, everyone, (haha… get it…)

In this article, my goal is to come up with as many titles for the new Spider-Man movie as possible.  Since the movie is coming out in July of 2017, a title is expected to come out soon (unless it’s called the Untitled Spider-Man Reboot… ba dum clank).  Here are some potential titles that Marvel can use.  If Marvel uses any of these titles, that would just be awesome!

The Spectacular Spider-Man:

Okay, this is the most likely name for this movie.  Spidey has so many nicknames and this is one of the most popular ones.  Spectacular Spider-Man has a light name and will really bring some fun in a genre that is soon going to be overrun with the darkness of the DCEU.  Since the Spider-Man in this movie is going to actually be a real teenager (Tom Holland isn’t 16, but he looks way younger than Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield), the movie should be a little lighter in tone and The Spectacular Spider-Man symbolizes that lightness.

Spider-Man:

This is the other heavyweight in the mix.  It’s possible that Marvel just decides to give the reboot the same title as the Tobey Maguire movie.  The name is classic and it works just fine.  Also, Marvel isn’t used to giving tags to their movies (Exceptions: sequels, but even Iron Man’s sequel was Iron Man 2 and no subtitle there).  The name won’t confuse younger kids, but it will confuse anyone who’s older than 10.  If Marvel goes this route, I wouldn’t be surprised, but it also means that the folks over at Marvel will have to up their game to compete with Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: The New Avenger:

I’ve heard this one all over the internet a few months ago.  I just have to say that it isn’t that bad of a title.  Captain America’s tag was The First Avenger and that was an appropriate title.  Since Spider-Man will join the Avengers and since he looks up to all these heroes (and since he’s a beloved comic book character who everyone knows), the New Avenger really emphasizes the fact that Spider-Man exists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Spider-Man: Homecoming:

I heard this one floating all around the internet today (Screenrant, IGN, and Gizmodo).  I’ll be blunt: I don’t think this is it.  While “Homecoming” may signify Spidey’s return to it’s home, Marvel, and it could also be a reference to the storyline with the black alien suit, I just don’t think this is the title of the much anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man movie.  I like the name, but it would feel weird saying to a friend, “Hey, friend, let’s go Spider-Man: Homecoming!”  I would call the movie “the new Spider-Man movie” and you probably will as well if this is the title of the movie.

Those are the main titles that I think are worth analyzing.  Here are a few more titles that could work.

Ultimate Spider-Man – This sounds like Amazing Spider-Man, but one step higher.

All New Spider-Man – This looks like a nice name for a Marvel comic book.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man – Sounds great, but too long to type, but then again, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is the title of a movie.

Okay, just one more for kicks:

So that’s it for names for the upcoming Spider-Man reboot directed by Jon Watts.  Do you think any of these names would work as a title for the movie?  Feel free to let us know what you think in the comments section!  Thanks!
